Academic development adds a new dimension to professional education and the development of knowledge. Academic education, and the development of knowledge through research, demands a higher degree of abstraction. As a provider of academic education, NHTV invests in programmes that are not (yet) on offer in the Netherlands. It also invests in programmes which are offered in conjunction with national and international partners and are conducive to NHTV’s distinctive profile.

Academic education and master’s programmes do not only require research, they also need a knowledge and research infrastructure, an academic atmosphere, and qualified personnel who are capable of contributing to the development of knowledge by conducting research and publishing their results. NHTV actively recruits staff at professor and associate professor level, encourages staff to study for doctoral degrees, and invests in facilities that are essential for academic research activities.

NHTV maintains an extensive network of contacts with commercial entities. The strength of NHTV lies in the practical application of theoretical knowledge. The new combination of abstract and applied knowledge, of development and implementation, and the natural synergy that exists between a number of NHTV disciplines gives NHTV a role in shaping industry standards and practices.

The integration of academic programmes makes NHTV a unique organisation which is able to offer education at both higher professional and academic level. The link between education, research and practice meets contemporary demands from industry and society to supply graduates with a higher level of academic ability.
