English Language Preparatory Course
The preparatory course aims to prepare you for studying in English and helps you to acquire the study skills and the high level of proficiency in English required for studying at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences.
This prep course is a programme jointly organised by NHTV Breda and Avans University of Applied Sciences, and is offered to students who require additional knowledge and language training for admission to the following bachelor’s degree courses of NHTV:
- International Tourism Management
- International Leisure Management
- International Logistics and Economics
- International Logistics and Transport Management
- International Traffic Management
- International Real Estate and Facility Management
- International Game Architecture and Design
- International Media and Entertainment Management
- International Hotel Management
- International Leisure Sciences (Scientific)
- Bachelor of Science Tourism (Scientific)
Besides upgrading your level of English this prep course also forms an introduction to our bachelor’s programme and helps you to acquire sufficient knowledge about the Dutch culture, specific domain knowledge and ICT, to enable your smooth entry into our 4-year bachelor’s programmes. Depending on your level of English language proficiency, you may enrol for a full-year or a half-year preparatory course.

English Language Preparatory Course covers:
- English, with English language lessons preparing you for an overall band score 6.0 of the Academic Module of the IELTS exam;
- Domain-specific knowledge, such as an introduction to the Bachelor’s programme;
- An introduction to Western European and Dutch culture;
- Study skills: familiarisation with our educational system and working methods;
- Field work activities, excursions and self-study periods.
You can enrol for a full-year or half-year prep course, depending on your level of English language proficiency. If you participate actively in this course, we expect you will pass the IELTS exam with an overall band score of at least 6 at the end of the prep course. This is a legal prerequisite for the enrolment of students from outside Europe into Dutch international bachelor’s programmes. Moreover, after completing the course you will be well prepared to enrol in and successfully follow our bachelor’s programmes.
This prep course ends with an official Academic IELTS exam. On successful completion of the programme you will receive a certificate issued by NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, together with an official IELTS certificate.
