Municipality matters

Read the list below so you can see whether you would need to register or not.

  • ALL Bachelor and Master students, regardless of their nationality, who will obtain a diploma from NHTV and who pay tuition fee need to register at the municipality. Also the students that enter directly in the 4th year and who will obtain a diploma from NHTV need to register. Even though you might not stay the whole year in Breda.
  • EU/EEA Exchange students who stay for 1 semester do not need to register. EU/EEA Exchange students who stay a full academic year DO need to register at the municipality.
  • EU/EEA or Non EU students who do not need an MVV to enter the Netherlands studying ETM, do not need to register at the municipality.
  • EU/EEA students do not need a residence permit. Registration at the municipality database will suffice.
  • Non EU students will need a residence permit in order to reside in the Netherlands legally. This is for Non EU students who entered the Netherlands with ánd without an MVV.

If you are going to live in Breda during your study at NHTV, the International Office will help you with this. Every year NHTV organises a collective registration with the municipality in the month of September. In general for this purpose you need an address in Breda, copy valid ID card or passport and a birth certificate.

If you plan to stay in another city you have to go to the Town Hall of the city where you are going to live yourself. Note that they will request you for more documents such as tenancy agreement, proof of registration NHTV and certificate of celibacy.

Birth certificate

A birth certificate can normally be obtained from the population register in your city/region. Start early it may take quite some time to obtain the document concerned. The birth certificate has to be legalized.

Change of address

It is very important and it is your own responsibility to keep your data updated at all times. All government offices make use of these data. Information regarding renewal of your residence permit (Non EU students) will be sent to the address included in the municipal register. If you need to change your address you have to visit the Town hall and fill in a ‘change of address’ form. You are obliged to sign out with the municipal register when you plan to leave Breda definitely.
