Media & Entertainment Management in practice

Work placements

Our students International Media and Entertainment Management are trained to become creative media experts who are not afraid of technology. In the third year of study, they have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of Media & Entertainment.

During this work placement, the student’s main duty is assisting a manager in a company. Students work full-time in your company for a duration of 20 weeks. There are several departments where the student can complete his/her work placement, for instance marketing, production, or concept development. Examples of branches where students can gain valuable work experience are television and radio, film production, the music industry, marketing/advertising firms, or event planning agencies. Obviously, the work placement should always bear a clear relationship to the field of Media & Entertainment.

Your work placement vacancy

You can send your work placement job description to us in your own document of a link to your website. We would like to ask you to send in the job description as sufficient as possible. Company activities, job description (tasks) requested period, contact person.

International students

Our programmes are attended by a considerable number of international students. These students speak English and sometimes a little Dutch. Their international backgrounds and aspirations can be a real asset to your company. That is why we would like to ask you whether you would be willing to accept a student who does not speak Dutch.

International work placements

As our programme has a distinctly international outlook, we encourage our students to do their work placement abroad. In this way, they have the opportunity to work and live abroad for a certain period of time, as a part of their curriculum. Please let us know if your company has possibilities for international work placements.

In the fact sheet you can find more information on the skills and knowledge of our students and NHTV’s work placement requirements.

Graduation

Students of the programme International Media and Entertainment Management have two options to complete their graduation track: a final management placement or a thesis.

Final management placement

The student works in your organisation and, in addition to carrying out operational activities, he/she has to complete a research assignment independently. The priority in a final management placement is solving a problem in a practical setting. In this process, the student has to spend at least 3 days a week on the research assignment.

Thesis

The student has to analyse a problem independently, working from home. The problem is of a practical nature, and bears a relationship to the field of Media and/or Entertainment Management. In the end, the student has to come up with a set of recommendations regarding the solution of the problem.
More detailed information can be found in the Graduation factsheet. Or, of course, you can also contact us.

Financial aspects

Placement host companies are asked to reimburse the student for part of his/her expenses, such as accommodation expenses. On average, this reimbursement runs to a net monthly €250. In addition, the school will ask you to pay a once-only donation of €250 towards the costs of mediation and the supervision of students (placement fund). Students themselves need to make sure that they have the necessary insurance coverage and work permits.

Why this placement fund?

Your donation will be deposited into the NHTV placement fund. This fund is basically intended to cover the expenses of the acquisition, organisation, preparation and supervision of the placement assignments. Every year, NHTV’s placement office contacts some hundreds of companies to secure placement positions for its students. Both the companies and the students benefit from this. In addition, the placement coordinators supply information to the students about placement companies and assignments, and are in charge of the administrative organisation right up to the placement contracts. The department is also responsible for the content-related preparation to the final work placement and assignment, and for the supervision of students during the execution of the final work placement and assignment. Please contact us if you have any questions about the placement fund.
