Databases & Endnote

 

Preceding to the use of a database or NHTV catalogue, you first need to create an EndNote library with an appropriate name. This is necessary in order to arrange the articles or books you intend to be using.

Catalogue NHTV

CatalogueNHTV (=Import filter Dutch version)

CatalogueNHTV (= Import filter English version)

  • Search for publications in the NHTV catalogue
  • Save info (per title or per set). If you only need a selection of the set, then add the individual titles to ‘my shelf’. When you are ready with your selection, choose ‘my shelf’ (at the top of the tool bar). If you want the entire set, then go straight to the next point
  • Click on Screen (an in-between screen will appear containing text (txt) information)
  • Go to File
  • Save as: type Text File (*.txt) and Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)
  • Then Save
  • Go to EndNote
  • Go to File
  • Import
  • Import Data File: Browse to the saved document and open it
  • At Import option, choose: NHTV catalogue (you can find it under "Other filters")
  • Your references will then be downloaded

  • Go to the databases of the website of NHTV's library
  • Select Emerald
  • Carry out a search
  • Click on the Abstract of a relevant title
  • Add the title to the Marked List
  • If desired, add other titles to the Marked List
  • Then click on Marked List in the left column
  • Select the relevant titles
  • Click on Export Options
  • Select Export to EndNote
  • The 'File Download'  window will appear
  • Click on 'Open'
  • The references will be exported to EndNote

Google Scholar

  • Go to the website Google Scholar
  • Go to “Scholar preferences”
  • Under “Bibliography Manager”, select “Show links to import citations into [Endnote]” and save this preference
  • Then start your search. For each reference you can choose Import into Endnote
  • Click on “Import into EndNote”
  • Click on “Open”
  • Select the desired library in EndNote and double-click on it
  • Your references will then be downloaded

Hospitality and Tourism Complete (EBSCO)

  • Go to databases on the website of the NHTV library
  • Choose Hospitality and Tourism Complete
  • Search the database as you would normally do
  • Make a selection of the references you wish to import into EndNote. You make this selection by clicking on “Add to folder”
  • At the top of your screen:  click on “Folder view”
  • Mark the articles
  • Click on the rightmost of the 4 icons: “Export”
  • Save citations to a file formatted for:  “Direct export to EndNote etc.”
  • Click on "Save"
  • Select an EndNote library
  • "Open"
  • Your references will then be downloaded

  • Go to the website Ingentaconnect
  • Do your search
  • Mark the references you wish to import into EndNote
  • Click on “Update Marked List”
  • Mark the hits : Attention: export more titles one by one!
  • Click on “Export Options” at the right of your screen

  • Double-click on an “EndNote library”
  • Your references will then be downloaded

  • Go to databases on the website of the NHTV library
  • Choose Leisure and Tourism Database (Cabi/LRTA)
  • Carry out your search in the normal way
  • Mark the references you wish to import into EndNote
  • Click on the Star Buttons
  • On the rightside of the screen, click on "Export marked Citations"
  • In the next screen "Export Citations", choose the right Format and click on the "Export EndNote (RIS) format" button
  • In the next dialogue box "File Download", select "Open"
  • Your references will then be downloaded

  • Go to Picarta
  • Do your search
  • Click on the selected title
  • Click on "Download" in the menu
  • Format: full title *UTF-8
  • Remove the mark at "Automatic word wrap"
  • Click on "Screen"
  • Go to File
  • Save as: Type, Text file
  • Encoding Unicode (UTF-8)
  • Go to Endnote:
  • File, Import
  • Import screen:"Choose file"= file you just saved
  • Import option: "Other filters"
  • Double click: then choose picarta*
  • Text translation: Unicode UTF-8
  • Click on: Import
  • Your references will be downloaded

Sage Journals Online

  • Go to the Sage Journals Online database
  • Enter your search terms
  • Mark the titles you want to save in EndNote
  • In the right column: use the “Add to my citations”
  • Add any new hits, if you want (Next 10 or New Search)
  • Right column “My Marked Citations”: use the “Email/Download/Save/Print my marked citations” button
  • Click on “Go”
  • Next window: choose the right Format
  • Click on the lowest of the three buttons: “Download to Citation Manager”
  • In the next window, titled "Download Directly to Citation Manager", you click on "Endnote"
  • The "File Download" window will appear
  • Click on the "Open" button
  • All selected titles will be transferred to the EndNote library of your choice
     

Science Direct

  • Go to databases on the website of the NHTV library
  • Go to Science Direct
  • Do your search
  • Mark the titles you wish to save in EndNote
  • Choose “Export citations”
  • Choose “RIS format” at "Export format"
  • Choose “Export”
  • EndNote will start and you can select an EndNote library to import the titles into
  • Your references will then be downloaded

 Scopus

  • Go to databases on the website of the NHTV library 
  • Go to Scopus
  • Do your search
  • Mark the titles you wish to save in EndNote 
  • Choose “Export” 
  • Choose “RIS format” at "Export format" 
  • Choose “Export”
  • The window “File Download” appears: use the “Open” button
  • EndNote will start and you can select an EndNote library to import the titles into
  • Your references will then be downloaded

•    Scroll to ‘Springer Journals’
•    Do your search
•    Click on a desired title

•    In the next screen: Select Citation Manager – Choose for EndNote
•    Click on ‘Export Citation’ button
•    Now the ‘File Download’ screen appears
•    Click on the ‘Open’ button

  • Search the database as you would normally do

Worldcat

  • Go to the website Worldcat
  • Create your own account or log in by means of your existing account
  • Do your search
  • Mark the hits
  • At the top of your screen: “save as [new list]”
  • Save
  • Name your list
  • Click on ”Create new list”
  • Go to the top of your screen: “Lists”
  • Click on: “My lists”
  • Click on the list you want and the list will be showed
  • Click the tab: “Citation view”
  • Choose a citation style (APA is the most common)
  • Choose Export selected references [ to Endnote]  and click on "Export"
  • Click on “Open”
  • Double-click on the desired EndNote library
  • Your references will then be downloaded
     

WTO elibrary

  • Go to the databases of the NHTV Mediatheek 
  • Select WTO elibrary
  • Do your search
  • Select the references by clicking on: “Add to Marked Items”
  • In the left column, click on “Marked items”
  • Mark the hits
  • Click on the leftmost of the 4 icons to the top-right: “Download this list”
  • Click, bottom of your screen:
    Export the citation from your current list of  items
    Click on “RIS
    Then click on “Open”
    Choose an EndNote library 
    Your references will then be downloaded
