Jessy learned how the Bollywood world works

Where did you go to for your exchange programme?
I went to the Whistling Woods School in Mumbai, India. This is a real Bollywood film school.

What are your experiences?
It was a unique experience. The passion for filmmaking in Bollywood is immense. There are so many productions every year, even more than in Hollywood. What’s more, the films have a unique style in terms of lighting, shots, and set design and décor, something that we can learn a lot from in many respects.

Can you give us a brief description of the subjects you did?
I attended 6 months of the propaedeutic year. Some of the subjects taught in this phase are Direction, Cinematography and Editing. Moreover, we attended an extensive film lighting course and practised camera movement techniques.

What did you learn while you were there?
How the Bollywood world works. And, of course, it was a valuable cultural experience. People communicate very differently, and the culture, religion (Hinduism) and customs are very different. You also get to see how people can be truly satisfied with nothing. It is a very inspiring country, I would not have wanted to miss this experience for anything in the world.
