Start of the academic year and checklist

The start of your NHTV career is in sight
You have applied for one of the bachelor programmes at NHTV and you will soon start studying in Breda. However, there are lots of things to be arranged. The checklist on this page - listing the most important practical matters - will help you prepare for your studies.

Is your enrolment complete?
Please check the following:
- Is your enrolment complete? Did you send the application package? Have you arranged payment of your tuition fee?
- Have you submitted your request for study finance to DUO?
- Have you requested your student travel product (OV-jaarkaart)?
- Have you registered for student activities (e.g. introduction event) in NHTV MORE?

Living in the Netherlands
- If you need a place to live, start looking early!
- Finances, grants & scholarships.
- Apply for a visa.
- Make sure you have sufficient insurance coverage (health, liability, household contents, etc).
- Register as a resident with the local municipal authority of the city where you are going to live.
- Find a GP (general practitioner) and dentist (doc) and register with a GP (doc).
- Know where to find a chemist or a dispensing general practitioner in Breda (website is in Dutch).
- Read about the NHTV emergency system (doc).

Buying study materials
- Laptop. Please mind the technical requirements.
- Software. As an NHTV student, you can buy software through Surfspot at substantial discount. Select NHTV and use your NHTV account and password to enter the site.
- Books. Order new books or try to find second-hand books.

About Holland and the Dutch

International Kick-off
For all new international students who start their studies at NHTV next September, a special International Kick-off will be organised on Monday 27 August. Make sure you mark this date on your calendar!

Introduction week
The first lecture day will be 3 September 2018, but the academic year will start with the introduction week at the end of August or beginning of September.
Don't forget to register for the introduction week in NHTV MORE.

Good to know
- When planning your year, don't forget to take a look at the holidays in the academic year 2018-2019.
- Most students have a part-time job.
- Joining a student association is a good way to make many new friends in no time.
