Education at NHTV is strongly practice-oriented. The theory you study is applied to practice directly. Other practical components include projects, skills training courses, company visits, work placements and graduation assignments. Many lecturers and supervisors hold part-time positions in the industry, and as such, they are perfectly capable of updating students on what’s happening in the world of work.

To be able to operate as a professional, you need knowledge, but knowledge alone is not enough. It is about a mix of knowledge, attitude and skills. This is referred to as competencies. So, education focuses on your total development as a person. Key competencies are collaborating, communication skills, and organisational skills. The Academy for Tourism has established the competencies for the study programmes in consultation with the tourism industry.
