NHTV Open Access Fund

The NHTV library willingly advises researchers on various subjects within open access publishing (e.g. negotiations with publishers, open access criteria, and open access journals, Moreover, the library  is enabling NHTV  researchers and students to publish in:

  • ‘green’ in the NHTV  Repository (due for introduction in 2016, related to Pure), or in:

  • ‘gold’ in one of the open access journals of publishers (Springer or Elsevier, for example)

NHTV Open Access Fund
If you want to publish an article in open access, this often involves costs, which are referred to as ‘article processing charges’.
There are various ways to cover the costs:

  • Include an item for publication costs in your project budget. Check the requirements of your financer in terms of open access publishing. Sherpa/Juliet offers an up-to-date overview of the policy (the mandates) of research financers;

NB. Are you receiving funding from the EU Horizon2020 programme? Open access publishing will be obligatory in that case (which you can also do by depositing your publication in an institution’s repository) and any costs involved will be included in the financing, provided that they were clearly specified in the application.

  • You can appeal to the open access fund of NHTV (by 31 December 2017 at the latest).

Conditions to qualify for the open access fund:

  1. Your article will be published in a peer reviewed journal which is either entirely open access or hybride (offers the opportunity to publish only your article in Open Access). Peer reviewed open access journals are included in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
  2. The corresponding author is employed at NHTV.
  3. You do not receive any publication subsidy from NWO or other parties.
  4. You will be required to deposit the full text of your publication in the NHTV repository as soon as possible after publication (how you can do so, is explained on the intranet of NHTV).
  5. Publication of dissertations and books will not be subsidised.

Procedure of the open access fund
Payment from the open access fund will take place afterwards; the invoice will first have to be paid to the publisher.

To apply for reimbursement, you send an email with the scanned invoice to cip@nhtv.nl. If your application meets the conditions, 100% of the costs will be reimbursed from the open access fund to the academy where the corresponding author works. You will receive a confirmation of this.

Please note that applications are handled on a first-come-first-served basis.
